Our Previous Master

Worshipful Brother Pat Malone was born in Warwick, Qld on 18/12/50.  He is the oldest of 10 siblings.   He was educated in Warwick, Redcliffe and Gympie before heading to Brisbane to commence studies at Kedron Park Teacher’s College (now SES HQ).   Instead of becoming a teacher, Pat joined the Qld Public Service on April Fool’s Day 1972 and has worked in the same Department for 39 years (with lots of department name changes, Ministers and Chief Executive Officers) and is currently a Senior Policy & Legislation Officer in the Office of Fair Trading, Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation.

Pat is married to Roslyn and they celebrated their 37thannivesary on the 1st September 2010.   They have two children – Tiani 34 and Rory 30 – and one grandchild and another expected on 11 November 2011 (Yes, that’s 11/11/11), all of whom they dote on.

Pat was initiated (1st degree) into Thistle Lodge in August 1983.   Pat was first installed into the chair of King Solomon in September 1989 and was installed again in September 2007 and September 2008.   He has held every office in the lodge except Treasurer and Inner Guard.  Pat is currently the Director of Ceremonies, the person responsible for ensuring that all work done in the lodge is done properly and correctly.

Pat has also been active in other Masonic Orders.   He has been Worthy Patron (5 times) and District Grand Patron in the Order of the Eastern Star (OES).   He has been an Associate Bethel Guardian, Associate Grand Bethel Guardian and Associate Grand Guardian in Job’s Daughters (an Order he holds in particular affection) and is a Past First Principal in Lutwyche Holy Royal Arch of Jerusalem Chapter No 72.   Pat is also the lodge’s nominated member of Barron Barnett Lodge of Masonic research.

Pat has also held positions associated with these Orders, such as Committee Member and Vice-President of the Qld Masonic Club, President of the OES Project Fund Committee Ltd, as well as Vice-President of the Wavell Heights Neighbourhood Society.

Pat maintains his enthusiasm for Freemasonry through 28 years of constant Masonic discoveries, but most of all because of the many wonderful people he has met and associated with through each part of the Masonic family.
